I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned.
For in the hand of the Lord there is a cup with foaming wine, well mixed, and he pours out from it, and all the wicked of the earth shall drain it down to the dregs. For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell.
Yes, I tell you, fear him! For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.
And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come. Remember and do not forget how you provoked the Lord your God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against the Lord.
For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Claiming to be wise, they became fools, But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. In the greatness of your majesty you overthrow your adversaries; you send out your fury; it consumes them like stubble. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.
Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.
The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. For he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord God , I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel?
And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock.
Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Though they know God's decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.
Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place, at the wrath of the Lord of hosts in the day of his fierce anger. What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,.
Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God?
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. There are some circles within Christianity that seem to emphasize the wrath of God.
And on the other extreme are those who are unable to fit it into their picture of God. Between those two extremes are those who are not quite sure what to make of a God of wrath. But what does the Bible itself have to say about this topic? There are a number of words in both the Old and New Testaments that are translated as wrath. These words are also frequently translated as anger. But the words are also used in relation to a negative human response to other people.
The wrath of God is a common expression in the Old Testament. The primary message of the prophets was one of judgment against disobedient people, typically with a call for repentance.
The wrath that would come to all who were disobedient to the gospel message. And that, in large part, is probably due to confusing it with human wrath. Human wrath is generally not considered as a commendable attribute. Getting revenge on humans who have offended him? I do not believe that it is. In Romans , Paul talks about the wrath and judgment of God that will come to those who have rejected the truth and followed evil.
Rather it is his righteous judgment against those who do evil. God is righteous. And he will judge us according to His righteous standard.
God's wrath and judgment are functions of His love. We would not want a God who was not just. In fact, all of culture cries out for justice. He and his wife, Brooke, have six children. He earned an M. You can follow him on Twitter BenjaminVrbicek. View the discussion thread.
